Just a little is enough!
We won’t be sending out tips in August, so we thought we’d break for the summer with a reminder of why it is important to eat healthily. Have a fabulous summer and we’ll be back with more tips in September. 


Today's tip: How important is it to eat healthily?
How important is it to eat healthily? A recent study estimated that 45% of deaths from heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes were due to poor diet. The study found that having a high intake of sodium, processed meats and sugar-sweetened beverages increased the risk of dying from these cardiometabolic diseases. A low intake of fruit and vegetables, nuts, seeds and omega-3 fats from seafood also increased the risk.

Processed foods tend to have a lot of salt, so it is healthier to prepare food yourself. Make sure you get plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, nuts and seeds and include oily fish. Try including fruit, salad or vegetables with every meal. Fresh fruit with a handful of nuts or seeds makes a quick and easy snack. Or try raw vegetables (carrots, celery, mini tomatoes, peppers etc) dipped in hummus.
